Getting Started

How does Multiplication Bug work?

Multiplication Bug uses spaced repetition, a scientifically proven learning technique. The app introduces new multiplication facts in small batches, then reviews them at increasing intervals (1, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 30 days). Facts your child finds difficult are reviewed more often, while well-known facts are spaced further apart.

Each session follows a structured sequence: warm-up with previously learned facts, introduction of new material, targeted practice, and a mixed review. This approach ensures strong long-term retention.

What age is the app designed for?

Multiplication Bug is designed for children ages 6–9. The interface uses large, clear buttons and child-friendly language. A parental gate protects settings that children should not access.

Can multiple children use the app?

Yes. The app supports up to 6 separate profiles, each with their own name, avatar, learning progress, and session history. All profiles are stored locally on your device.

Daily Learning

What are Daily Missions, Practice, and Evening Review?

The app offers three types of learning sessions:

Why can't my child start another session?

To prevent fatigue and support healthy learning habits, the app has daily session limits. The default (Standard) tier allows 1 Daily Mission, 2 Practice sessions, and 1 Evening Review per day.

If your child wants to keep practicing, they can tap "Ask a Parent" to request a bonus session. Parents can also adjust the practice intensity in Settings → For Parents → Practice Intensity.

What is the break between sessions?

There is a 15-minute cooldown between consecutive Daily Mission sessions (on Standard and Extended tiers). This encourages breaks and prevents cramming.

Switching to a different session type (e.g., from Daily Mission to Practice) is always immediate — no cooldown. Parents can skip the cooldown from the session limit screen if needed.

Why is Evening Review only available after 7 PM?

Research on sleep-dependent memory consolidation shows that reviewing material shortly before sleep helps transfer knowledge from short-term to long-term memory. The 7 PM threshold ensures the review happens close enough to bedtime to benefit from this effect.

What happens when the app says "This is getting tricky!"?

The app monitors your child's recent answers. If it detects several wrong answers in a row, it gently pauses the session with encouragement. Your child can choose to continue or take a break and finish for the day. This prevents frustration and keeps learning positive.

Progress & Streaks

How does spaced repetition work?

When your child answers a fact correctly and quickly, the review interval increases: 1 day → 3 days → 7 days → 14 days → 21 days → 30 days. This means well-known facts appear less often, freeing up time for facts that need more practice.

If your child answers incorrectly, the fact is reset to a shorter interval and reviewed again soon. This ensures weak spots get extra attention.

How do streaks work?

Your child earns a streak day for each day they complete at least one session. The streak counter shows how many consecutive days they have practiced. The app also tracks their best streak ever achieved, which serves as a personal-best challenge.

What happens if my child misses a day?

Everyone needs a break sometimes. The app includes a grace day system: your child gets 1 free pass per calendar week (resetting each Monday). If they miss a single day and haven't used their grace day that week, their streak is preserved automatically. Missing 2 or more consecutive days resets the streak, but their best streak record is always saved.

For Parents

How do I open parental settings?

Go to Settings → For Parents. You will see a verification screen that displays a 3-digit number written as words (for example, "five hundred and twelve"). Type the number using digits to proceed. This gate is designed to be easy for adults but difficult for young children.

The gate allows 3 attempts, then requires a 30-second wait before trying again.

What do the practice intensity levels mean?

You can adjust how many sessions your child can do each day:

Change this in Settings → For Parents → Practice Intensity.

What is the difference between Reset Progress and Delete Profile?

Reset Progress clears all learning data (mastery levels, session history, streaks) but keeps the child's profile, name, and avatar. Use this if your child wants to start over from the beginning.

Delete Profile permanently removes the profile and all associated data. The child's name, avatar, and all learning history are erased.

Both actions are irreversible and require parental verification.

Privacy & Data

Is my child's data safe?

Yes. Multiplication Bug is fully offline — it does not connect to the internet, does not collect any personal information, and does not include advertising or analytics. All data stays on your device.

For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Is my child's progress backed up?

Yes. Your child's learning data is automatically included in your device's standard backups:

When you restore a backup to a new device, all progress, streaks, and session history come with it. No account or setup needed.

Note: This is device backup and restore — it does not sync data between multiple devices in real time.

How do I delete my child's data?
